Lead is Poison Know the Facts

 Lead poisoning is entirely preventable.

Lead poisoning is the most common childhood disease in Rhode Island.

African-American, Southeast Asian and Hispanic children are two times more likely to be poisoned by lead.

High levels of lead can cause mental retardation, seizures, coma, and kidney problems.

Low levels of lead can cause behavior problems, learning disabilities, and lower IQ.

Sources of Lead

Paint: from old houses, lead dust from paint removal during renovations

 Soil: yards, playgrounds, gardens

Food: lead-soldered cans, lead glazed ceramic ware

Water: from lead pipes or lead solder
